2. Brevity
Remove all unnecessary text, such as clichés, jargon, and convoluted sentences. Web
readers are usually in a hurry, rapidly scanning your document.
To get their attention, use precise words. If you can delete a word
without changing the overall meaning, do it.
3. Simplicity
Use one-syllable, two-syllable words, and short sentences to convey your meaning.
Avoid pretentious sounding words and hackneyed phrases. When you use complicated
multi-syllable words, you make the reader work very hard to extract the meaning.
Well-written content is a sign of clear thinking. Pompous and rambling text
gives the impression that you dont care about the reader, and are forcing
them to understand your message.
Using simple words does not mean you have to limit your vocabulary. Instead, you can
express your message clearly and preciselyin as few words as possible.
4. Choose Simple Words
A strong vocabulary enables you to select the most appropriate word to convey your
meaning, rather than using complex words and phrases that confuse the reader.
P.S.
Dont make your readers have to *extrapolate* the meaning; keep
the message clear. Keep it simple. Say what you mean. |
