What is Microcontent?
One of
the key points to consider about the text on your site is microcontent, which is an ultra-short
abstract of the main content.
Microcontent needs to be concise and
articulate.
Microcontent is very different from
content for traditional publications, such as newspapers.
For example those who buy a regular newspaper are familiar with the
content, layout and navigation. |

They can read it at their own leisure and
return to sections that they want to read.
On the web,
people are under pressure to find data quickly, while watching the clock and struggling with
different design layouts at each website.
There are considerable differences between
online and offline publications, for example: On
the web, headlines are often displayed out of context. For example, the same headlines may
also appear on another website, in an email Inbox or search engine results.
- Print
headlines tend to have an associated photograph, subhead with the entire article.
Most web users don't have time to click every
headline to retrieve the full article. Thus, make headlines as meaningful as possible.
Headlines
needs to make sense when the rest of the content is not available to the reader.
