Fixing
Damaged Word Files
To re-open a damaged document, follow these
steps:
- In Word, from the File menu, select Save
As.
- Select Rich Text Format in the drop-down
list box.
- Enter a new file name that was damaged.
This saves the file in Rich Text (RTF) format and removes
the corrupted information.
TIP: Open the RTF file and save it as a
Word document, i.e. with a .doc extension.
Recover text from any file
Microsoft Word tries to automatically recover a damaged document if it detects a
problem with the file. You can also "force" Word to try to recover a document
when you open it.
1. On the File menu, click Open.
2. In the File of type list, click All Files
*.*.
3. In the Open dialog box, select your document.
4. Point to the arrow on the Open button, and then click Open
and Repair.
